This story from May is already outdated but the substance is still pertinent. In addition to his hypocritical defense of the January 6 protesters (especially when compared to the Trumpite faction's rhetoric concerning Los Angeles), Johnson recently spun the incident involving California Senator Padilla at the Kristi Noem press conference. He put the blame on Padilla and suggested he 'charged' the podium - which is pure rubbish and he knows it. The Senator was thrown to the ground and handcuffed - an incident that reminded me of Charles Sumner getting caned on the Senate floor in 1856. These incidents are all pieces of a puzzle that future historians will point to when commenting on the collapse of America and its pending civil war.
Historians also point to James Buchanan and blame him for letting the Civil War happen. In the months following the election of Lincoln, as the Southern states began to secede - Buchanan did little to nothing to stop the formation of the Confederacy. He took his Lame Duck status quite literally. His earlier attempts to address Bleeding Kansas (which in reality was the prologue to the war) in his military campaign against the Mormons was also viewed as a case of misguided leadership - a case of wagging the dog as it would later be known.
Johnson is playing a similar role in his facilitating of Trump and his agenda. I was recently revisiting the Nicaragua-Contra episode of the 1980's and I thought of Johnson in light of the Boland Amendment. Congress was concerned that Reagan was acting beyond or outside the law and congressional oversight so they moved to curtail his power. He of course circumvented this in what would become the great scandal of his presidency - in reality one of the greatest scandals in American history. Johnson is it would seem unaware of such Congressional attempts to check White House overreach.
Johnson's patriotism is divorced from history, ethics, and any sense of constitutional law and basic concepts such as checks and balances. He is an enabler of Trump's authoritarianism and highly corrupt.
This is (it would seem) the Dominionist model for seizing control. Rely on corrupt derelict politicians and judges, cabinet-level sycophants and willing figures within military and the law enforcement to seize control. DOGE was about purging resistance and creating chaos. The idea is that by the time a concentrated resistance actually forms - which in order to do so will need to move beyond the likes of Sanders and AOC - it will be too late.
I'm not a patriot and I don't believe in America. But if I did, I would have to say that Mike Johnson is a traitor and in addition to being impeached, he should face criminal charges.
I
already know he's a traitor to Christ's Kingdom. He hides behind
worldview and uses it as a justification for his amorality and
mendacity. He stands condemned.
His abdication of responsibility
- 'My expertise is in the House' reveals he is utterly lacking in not
only expertise but basic competency. No matter which way you try to
look at and interpret his statements, he stands condemned.
Unlike the author of the article, I don't doubt Biden's corruption. I think it's longstanding and much of it is tied in with his Delaware-based relationships with the banking and credit card industries. Just because Trump's corruption is open, blatant, and shameless - Johnson seems to think this makes it permissible. Once again, it merely testifies to his own ineptitude and corruption. He's the one figure in the government that could stop Trump and hold him accountable, but he won't lift a finger. One commentator rightly said he acts more like a White House junior staffer than the person second in line to the presidency. He is Trump's creature and thus he spits in the face of the Founders that he supposedly venerates.
History will rightly excoriate Johnson. And yet it's a shame he is celebrated in the Church and the Evangelical celebration of this morally bankrupt and evil man is simply a testimony to its own corruption.
The Southern Baptist Convention recently declared that it wants to overturn Sodomite Marriage - even as its ranks are so dominated by feminism that it could not pass a simple vote to condemn the travesty of women 'pastors'.
If the SBC had any integrity at all it would call out this prominent member that is engaging in blatant and openly sinful behaviour and by strengthening the hands of those that do evil he is bringing disgrace on the name of Christ. But given that the SBC is hopelessly corrupt, I'm not overly optimistic.
We will have to endure Johnson's smug expressions for a while longer but those of us who have been to the Lord's House know his end.
