In addition to Kuznetsov who was arrested and extradited from Italy, there is also news of another Ukrainian arrested in Poland who is accused of being part of the Nordstream sabotage.
These stories are getting little if no notice in American media which was quick to blame the September 2022 bombings on Russia - in defiance of all reason, evidence, or even common sense. It was clear to many at the time that the two countries that stood to benefit the most from the sabotage were Ukraine and the United States.
And this is the additional layer to this scandal. Let's say some Ukrainian divers actually blew up the pipeline. It's hard (if inconceivable) to imagine they were able to pull this off without American help - in terms of logistics, perhaps training, explosives, and maybe even personnel. We don't really know who these Ukrainians are or what their connections are to either the US (or other NATO) military or intelligence agencies. The are reports of suspicious US naval activity in the area around the time of the detonation.
The US benefitted from the sabotage in that Europe was driven to purchase American Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG). And Ukraine wanted to see European hesitancy shattered by breaking dependency on Russian oil.
The story of these arrests and pending trials is significant as is the fact that American media all but refuses to cover this story. This is effectively a cover-up. American outlets may pick up the stories in connection to the trials but it's clear a delay strategy is being implemented. The longer the story stays out of the news cycle, the more likely these events will be forgotten and when the stories run later this year or later - few people will care or pay attention.
It's actually a huge story and a monumental scandal and it's key to understanding the larger story of what the Ukraine War is all about as well as Washington's strategy vis-à-vis Ukraine, Moldova, the Caucasus, and Moscow.
