More Ecclesiastical Cover-Ups

https://coreyjmahler.com/adolf-hitler-christian/

I already touched on this issue a couple of years ago when LPR's Issues Etc. chose not to cover a story of an LCMS minister caught up in the attempt to overturn the 2020 election in favour of Donald Trump.

Inbox: The Buice Scandal

I was asked to comment about Josh Buice and the scandal surrounding him. G3 Ministries is one of the big names in New Calvinism - even though I think Buice would want to distance himself from that label.

Windsor, Ramadan, and More AFR Hype

Listening to American Family Radio (AFR) in March, I caught a story about Ramadan fast-breaking being held at Windsor Castle. As expected the story was misrepresented. They were invited by Charles - though not without controversy. He is well known as an advocate of inter-religious and ecumenical projects. For some this is controversial as he is officially the 'Defender of the Faith' as head of the Church of England.

Francis, the Synod on Synodality, and the Roman Episcopate in China

https://www.heraldmalaysia.com/news/the-bishop-of-mindong-among-the-new-synod-fathers-named-by-francis/78274/2

Francis has given his critics more fuel to pour on the already raging fire surrounding his papacy. Bishop Vincent Zhan Silu, the Bishop of Mingdong is a Beijing appointee that was originally ordained in a CCP-sanctioned rite in the year 2000. Viewed as illegitimate, he was excommunicated by the Vatican, a move that was revoked in 2018 when Francis signed the accord with Beijing. Zhan Silu was one of seven Beijing-appointed bishops embraced by the Vatican - a move that many Traditionalists found repugnant.

Presbyterianism's Rejection of the Sufficiency of Scripture

https://reformedforum.org/podcasts/ctc848/

I literally laughed out loud when I reached the 47:00 minute mark of this podcast - an exercise in the torture that is Presbyterian polity. We have committees to exercise oversight of committees.

Orthodox Intrigues in Moldova

https://www.reuters.com/world/europe/romanian-orthodox-church-welcomes-moldovan-priests-wanting-join-2024-04-25/

https://www.euractiv.com/section/enlargement/news/romanian-orthodox-church-welcomes-moldovan-priests-wanting-to-join/

As I have often reported, political programmes of subversion and transformation often contain a religious component. Moldova and its place in the West's Anti-Russia campaign has been overshadowed by the war in neighbouring Ukraine as well as other global conflicts, but in fact the campaign is intensifying as Brussels seeks to fast-track both Chișinău and Kyiv into the EU. Whether that actually happens or not is yet to be seen.

Tooley Keeps Spinning the GMC

https://www.thegospelcoalition.org/article/mainline-methodist-left/

Mark Tooley continues to mislead regarding the 'conservative' Global Methodist Church (GMC). Conservative by what standard? In terms of historic Protestant orthodoxy, the new denomination is not conservative but theologically liberal. When compared to the New Testament, the GMC represents a serious departure with its attitudes regarding everything from feminism to the embrace of higher criticism and much more.

Evangelical Feminism in Europe

https://evangelicalfocus.com/=life-tech/24403/spanish-baptist-faculty-of-theology-includes-feminism-in-its-curriculum

Building bridges to society is basically another way of saying – find as much common ground as you can and try to redeem what you can. It sounds noble and well-intentioned but history demonstrates it's a formula for compromise and eventually capitulation.

The Rotten Fruit of Cultural Christianity

https://truthscript.com/church/the-surprising-fruit-of-cultural-christianity/

Harris is arguing that cultural Christianity is a gospel means – because in the Bible Belt, people go to church. This in turn led certain Right-wing folks that had left New York for Tennessee to also attend church and ultimately become Christians. It's almost a kind of soft peer pressure that he thinks is valid and helpful.

More Western Misunderstandings of Orthodoxy

https://www.npr.org/2023/09/30/1201065400/ukraine-russian-orthodox-church-tensions

Whenever these questions are addressed by Western news outlets the stories are tainted by phony democratic and liberal assumptions that are imposed on the discussion of the Church. This is true even when the discussion deals with Protestants or Roman Catholics.

Atlanta Appeal

I don't do a lot of endorsements these days but I wish to commend the following website to readers – Deo Vicit Mundum. The site is run by Joshua Immanuel, a dear brother in the Lord who has been an encouragement to me. Based in the larger Atlanta area he (like so many of us) has struggled to find a solid Biblically-based church and as such he's putting out an appeal – one that I'm forwarding to my readers with the hope that maybe someone else is in the area or familiar with it and can contact him with a recommendation.

Para-Feminism on the Defense

https://julieroys.com/john-pipers-position-women-should-not-lead-parachurch-organizations-sparks-controversy/

I think it safe to say that I'm not a fan of John Piper but on occasion I can appreciate something he says. In this case, it's not really about anything remarkable coming from Piper's pen. Rather, what piques my interest is that such a statement has generated controversy.

Clashing Dominionisms: Kuyperian Two-Kingdom Theology versus Theonomy

https://theaquilareport.com/thoughts-on-the-churchs-true-nature-and-mission-a-partial-rejoinder-to-larry-balls-challenge-to-the-spirituality-of-the-church/

I post this with a few comments just to call attention to the kind of Two Kingdom Theology which needs to be rejected and opposed. It caught my eye because the author (Tom Hervey) was critical of Larry Ball, a Theonomist writer I have countered on many an occasion. Happy to see someone answering him, I was nevertheless mostly disappointed in Hervey's response.

Refusing to be Distracted

https://julieroys.com/ohio-church-refuses-embrace-partisan-politics-shrinks/

The article was good and even refreshing to a degree, but it was not elaborated enough. It felt like there should have been a lot more explanation as to why these positions (what some take to be non-positions) are taken.

The confusion is demonstrated in the comments after the article.

The JD Hall Scandal: Ecclesiastical Failures All Down the Line

https://julieroys.com/j-d-hall-removed-church-failure-demonstrate-repentance/

As sad and pathetic as the JD Hall episode is, this follow-up article only further demonstrates how askew this congregation is. We already know that JD Hall is unqualified to lead a congregation and this was evident even before the recent revelations. They simply confirmed this to be the case. He is not Biblically rooted in his thinking and now his conduct and response to exposure simply shine a light on this.

Jubilee and Growing Nationalism in British Evangelical Circles

This only about eight weeks late but it doesn't really matter. As much as I might enjoy doing so I'm not running a news site or current events blog. If it were up to me I would publish a couple of articles a day along with other essays and what I'd really like to do – more doctrinal and Scriptural studies. But work and other obligations means that's not possible. And as this year is proving to be one of the most difficult I've had in almost a decade, there's less time than usual as I'm putting in extra hours in an attempt to make ends meet. And in terms of writing, I'm playing catch up.
