I've paraphrased the question...
Q: Shouldn't we as Christians support and be thankful for
NATO's moves against ISIS?
A: Yes and no.
Yes, in the sense that we are thankful for God's Providence.
We can be glad that generally speaking the ISIS groups of the world are not
allowed to take over.
Even depraved and lost man has enough of a moral compass
left within him to realize ISIS is wicked and must be both rejected and
stopped.
They stop ISIS not for the glory of God but for the glory of
their realms and their own power and legacies. We benefit from their misguided
morality. We can be thankful to God for His care but I don't see that we need
to be particularly thankful 'to' these leaders.
These same men at the very same time they speak of the right
and the good... are part of nations which lie, cheat, steal and murder. They
will also happily support evil murderous regimes if it's in their interest to
do so.
ISIS is a flash in the pan. The leaders at the NATO summit
represent the same thing in many respects... they're just set on low-heat and
they've got a lid on. They hide a lot of what they do and what they're really
about.
There's a reason the Westerners executed by ISIS wear orange
jumpsuits.
I'm not saying they're right in what they do. Far from it.
I'm merely making an observation.
We can also be thankful that Providence brings down empires.
They reach the pinnacle of power and then self-destruct. America take heed and
especially all the idolaters in the Church that worship her. Their idol will
fall.
So yes, we can in some sense be thankful that certain
nations will respond to ISIS.
No, in the sense that these men and the power behind them lied,
cheated, stole and murdered their way into power. The 'great' nations of Europe
and America are little more than grandiose criminal enterprises built on
deception and narratives which legitimate their evil deeds.
They make the messes. They bomb and kill, manipulate and
steal and they create the instability that breeds groups like ISIS.
They're responsible. Let them clean it up.
Let the dead bury their dead.
I'm glad that someone will eventually stop ISIS. I'm also glad
America's power will eventually break and the decades of bloodbath will end.
But by the time the hydra-head of America dies, two more
will take its place. It's as if the same empires are reborn again and again.
Wars and rumours of wars.
Should we pray for and/or support the troops?
Not at all. They're just evil men fighting evil men. The
fact that some may (or may not) be a little more evil has little to do with it.
Many will be offended that I would find moral equivalence
between a US Marine and a member of ISIS.
I contend they're not thinking it through and despite all
their talk, they haven't really applied a Biblical Worldview.
When ISIS collapses it will be a glorious day.
But can we say the same for NATO? We should if we understand
what NATO actually represents. If you think it means security and stability,
then you need to broaden your thinking. You need to digest more history and
some different types of news. You need to revisit Scripture and think through
the implications of the fact that Christ rose from the dead, is reigning as
King of a glorious spiritual Kingdom and that He's coming once more.
