The British Monarch as Defender of the Faith

https://firstthings.com/no-faith-worth-defending/

Trueman continues to baffle me. I once appreciated this man and considered him to be rather insightful - even when I disagreed with him. But something has changed and now he's teamed up with the Colson people and Grove City College, and has become seriously engaged in the Culture War.

The man who in 2010 wrote Republocrat: Confessions of a Liberal Conservative, seems to no longer exist.

A Balanced View of UK Immigration

https://www.evangelical-times.org/as-nigel-farage-surges-in-the-polls-is-immigration-a-christian-issue/

Generally speaking I have not been overly impressed with the Evangelical Times. The reasons for this are varied, but I found this article both balanced and even refreshing as the author (Mike Judge) demonstrated a willingness to break with mainstream political thought and to challenge (and likely offend) many who are committed one way or the other. As is often the case, those one step removed from the American political scene exhibit a little more in the way of sobriety and wisdom.

Starmer's Fall

The political Right on both sides of the pond will celebrate the fall of Keir Starmer. And while his fall marks no great sea change, the Right will mark the moment as a victory and one in which Labour has been weakened.

Starmer Bows to the Emperor

https://www.aljazeera.com/video/newsfeed/2026/3/12/al-jazeera-sees-bombs-being-loaded-onto-us-planes-at-uk-base

Keir Starmer has tried to distance himself from America's war and yet Britain is certainly the junior and subservient partner in the Atlanticist Anglo-American Empire. His government is struggling and he didn't want to risk alienating more Labour voters by supporting the Trump-Netanyahu war and so he tried to side-step the issue by suggesting that UK bases would only be used for 'defensive' purposes.

Starmer on Homeschooling

https://ca.news.yahoo.com/lots-misconceptions-home-education-062055678.html

Starmer's government is in trouble and so like many politicians in his position he looks to distract, to channel fear and anger, and to utilize scapegoats. As such, he's decided (among other things) to go after homeschooling.

The Church of England, Christo-Nationalism, and Two Robinsons

https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cy4p42kydx9o

Now that the BBC has put up a paywall, it's hit or miss as to whether or not you'll be able to read this - that is unless you have an account. I don't and as such my BBC reading and website visits has plummeted. I still utilise their podcasts but I wonder how long they will remain available without a subscription?

This article displays in very clear terms how some forms of revivalism have nothing to do with the gospel or the Holy Spirit but are instead tied to culture war and politics. Now I know men like John Stonestreet will argue this is nevertheless a good thing because it gets these people into churches where they will hear the gospel - that is assuming that they will in fact hear the Scriptures preached. I wouldn't count it - even in many so-called conservative churches.

Recent Dominionist Efforts in the UK

https://christianconcern.com/comment/the-mission-of-god-includes-politics/

Reading the summaries of this conference, I'm left shaking my head - more distractions, more confusion. The New Testament knows nothing of what they're talking about. They are cherry picking a few texts and reading a lot of assumptions into them.

Windsor, Ramadan, and More AFR Hype

Listening to American Family Radio (AFR) in March, I caught a story about Ramadan fast-breaking being held at Windsor Castle. As expected the story was misrepresented. They were invited by Charles - though not without controversy. He is well known as an advocate of inter-religious and ecumenical projects. For some this is controversial as he is officially the 'Defender of the Faith' as head of the Church of England.

The BBC, Russia, and Unreality

BBC coverage within Russia has taken a rather snarky tone for some time. They're not really reports as much as they are snide editorials. Secular Humanism is the religion of modern culture and the BBC advocates for this - even if they would deny it. Classical Liberalism is the default political theory, even though there's no real basis for assuming this within a secular worldview. They can't appeal to any authority and in a contest of empirical evidence the system is far from unassailable even though they seem to think so. One would think that an international news outlet would be a little more cynical regarding the history of democracy and liberalism in the West, but after all we are talking about a kind of faith - even if it's a vain and empty one.

Anti-Semitic Israeli Generals?

https://www.middleeasteye.net/news/israel-former-general-compares-palestinian-treatment-nazi-germany

One would think this story would get a little more press than it has received.

Was this some left-wing firebrand that dared to compare Israel's treatment of the Palestinians to the Nazi regime or its West Bank policies to apartheid South Africa?

Jubilee and Growing Nationalism in British Evangelical Circles

This only about eight weeks late but it doesn't really matter. As much as I might enjoy doing so I'm not running a news site or current events blog. If it were up to me I would publish a couple of articles a day along with other essays and what I'd really like to do – more doctrinal and Scriptural studies. But work and other obligations means that's not possible. And as this year is proving to be one of the most difficult I've had in almost a decade, there's less time than usual as I'm putting in extra hours in an attempt to make ends meet. And in terms of writing, I'm playing catch up.

The Unionist Nightmare in Ulster

https://www.politico.eu/article/boris-johnson-to-travel-to-belfast-amid-brexit-protocol-crisis/

It's the nightmare scenario the Ulster Unionists long feared. With the recent Sinn Fein victory in the Northern Ireland elections, the unionists face the real prospect of a vote for Irish Reunification. Long feared but a distant prospect, the campaign has picked up momentum in light of the 2016 Brexit vote and now seems within the realm of possibility.

The Afghan Legacies of George W Bush and Tony Blair

https://www.aljazeera.com/opinions/2021/7/31/george-w-bush-should-shut-up-and-go-away

The author of the editorial is correct in exposing a rather startling truth - men like George Bush have no conscience. A man who should be in sackcloth and ashes is instead living the good life and has been largely rehabilitated in the eyes of the American public.

The Labour Purges: Corbyn and the Fraudulent Anti-Semitism Campaign

Though he was forced out over six months ago, the UK's Blair-ite controlled Labour Party has persisted in their conspiracy to destroy Jeremy Corbyn and any hint of his legacy. He's still an MP and apparently there's fear that his wing of the party may come back at some point. And so while he's down, Keir Starmer and those that back him are maneuvering to take Corbyn out of the equation.

Failing to Discern the Real Nature of the BBC and Mainstream Media in the Anglo-American World

There is a lack of discernment on display in the Sharon James article. She laments the fall of the BBC and the abandonment of its Biblical values missing the fact that when the institution was created in 1927 the British Empire was still in full swing. The idea that something like the BBC –a mouthpiece for the British Establishment would in any way represent Christian values or that the ethics of honesty and objectivity wouldn't come into conflict with the Empire – which like all empires is built on lies was just absurd. It was bound to fail. It was from the beginning a lie and therefore prima facie unbiblical.

UK Politics: Labour Continues Phoney Anti-Semitic Purges and the Results of Beijing's Hong Kong Clampdown

Jeremy Corbyn is gone but the Labour Party's 'Anti-Semitism' push to the right agenda continues. It's being used as a means to purge the party of anyone who doesn't toe the Establishment line when it comes to UK foreign policy.
You could almost describe this as the UK's version of a flirtation with McCarthyism.
