This is a postscript to the Christian Kids in State Colleges piece even though these comments are largely restricted to primary and high school settings.

While we certainly do not lament attempts by the state to
restrict the aggressive campaign of sodomy promotion in the public school – a
point that is further confused by the campaign's associations with the
Christian Right (along with its goals and assumptions), nevertheless it would
be a great error on the part of Christian parents in places like Florida and
Texas to think that due to this legislation everything is now okay in the
public school – it certainly is not.
Simply restricting what is taught in that regard may be an
improvement but there's still going to be the underlying assumptions present in
the culture of the school and this is in addition to the pervasive teaching of
values subversive to the Christian faith – values that may or may not be
overtly taught but are often implied and assumed.
The schools are still going to be rife with the assumptions
of materialism and Enlightenment epistemology, as well as those of feminism and
American ideology. This latter ideology is retained even if there is a kind of
tepid attempt to address social ills and sins within the context of American
social history – what the Right nebulously refers to as 'woke' teaching. The
teachers are lost, and those that make a Christian profession have compromised
their faith and at the very least have willingly restricted it. And then
there's the glaring reality of peer interaction – to expect your kids to stand
firm in the face of a relentless and almost around-the-clock assault is not
realistic. Your kids will spend the majority of their formative years
surrounded by unbelievers who are attempting to shape the way they think – and
in most cases they succeed. Couple this with the weak and watered gospel that
dominates within the context of the American Church and we have a formula for
disaster, worldliness, and in many cases apostasy. This was already evident
long before the sodomite crisis of recent years. Christian parents need to
understand this and act. Don't be assuaged because you think Ron DeSantis is
going to turn the public schools moral again – if ever they were. And don't be
fooled – this is a politician playing to a base, not a man of his word, not a
man of integrity, and certainly not a man who really possesses the power to
change the system to that extent – let alone change hearts.
And do not confuse American conservatism with New Testament
Christianity. Rousas Rushdoony was wrong about many things but in identifying
the public schools as messianic and religious – he spoke truth. As Christians
we abdicate our holy God-given responsibility when we hand over our sanctified
Kingdom children to what is in the end a parochial school – a religious institution
in the service of secular humanism. Do not send your kids to the Temple of
Baal.
As adults we must deal with the Baal worshippers and must
live in the Babylonian system. These questions become more complex. With children
the choice is clear.
