US Special Forces and Latin American Drug Cartels

Undoubtedly this story will prove shocking to many, but for anyone that has ventured down this road of inquiry, it is in reality an old story going back to the end of World War II. This is just the latest chapter in a larger story of US government, CIA, and US military complicity in drug trafficking that ties in with the Kuomintang and the Golden Triangle, the Mafia and Marseilles, the French Connection and Turkish smugglers, the Contras and Colombia.

It seems clear enough that there's a major drug scandal being covered up on Ft. Bragg. My guess is this somehow dovetails with CIA activities - often special ops works hand in glove with Langley. It could just be corruption in the ranks, but I don't think so. This is a cover-up and a massive scandal that can only be swept under the rug by powerful figures in government. As is so often the case, the cover-up has failed (at least in part) and some of the story has gotten out. Will you hear about it on the CBS Evening News? Don't hold your breath.

It's a present day scandal but the broad strokes are familiar enough. The US government has long been involved in the drug trade and it has used both special ops and intelligence agencies to run the drugs. Sometimes it's a currency. Other times it's a tool to raise money for black ops.

The magnitude of the cover-up in this case is hinted at in the staggering number of deaths. It would be one thing to suggest these people have been felled by overdose or (at some level) involved in the trade, but with this many deaths - it's like there's a media blackout. There's something big taking place.

Afghanistan became very important in the 1980's as the Indochina market (of the 1960's and 70's) closed up. The US still had access to the Golden Triangle via Thailand, but many of the old networks folded with the end of the Vietnam era. Afghanistan became the new source and the drugs were run through Türkiye and other European ports.

The Afghan trade collapsed in the 1990's due to the civil war and the rise of the Taliban which (contrary to Tony Blair) sought to suppress poppy cultivation - and has done so again. But after the US ousted the first Taliban regime in 2001, the drug trade was revitalized and one of the major figures involved was the brother of Afghan president Hamid Karzai.

Also the 1980's saw the explosion of crack cocaine sourced out of Central America - it's arrival on American streets has been connected to Iran-Contra and the activities of Oliver North. The Contras had to be funded off the books and so drugs proved critical to raise funds.

Harp is to be commended and the fact that this story is ignored by the media reveals a great deal - about the media. In addition to the dirty deeds the US is involved in, it is but another example pointing to the dishonest and corrupt culture within the US military.
