Apart from the imperial legions, he's done little to change
the situation. This has mostly been accomplished through the courts and the
rapid change in the larger culture. But how many times have I heard him
critiqued as lacking any kind of moral backbone or principle because he changed
his views?
I'll admit that Obama has proven himself weak and utterly
lacking in terms of integrity. He is after all a politician.
There's a new book out on Mitch McConnell which exposes him
as the exact same type of character. He was pro-union and pro-abortion when he
initially came into public office. The author demonstrates that he basically
has survived by watching which way the wind is blowing and changing his
position.
The one issue he's actually fought for is to stave off any
kind of restrictions regarding campaign finance. Needless to say he's proven
easily corruptible and by many estimations is one of the most corrupt members
of the US Senate. It's not too surprising when you consider the power and
wealth of the energy lobby and its place within Kentucky. I enjoy listening to
him talk to the home folk. He picks up a bit of a drawl that he seems to lose
when speaking to the national audience. LBJ famously did the same thing.
They're all a deceitful lot pretending to be what they're not.
Now that McConnell is in the full limelight, will we hear
conservative commentators berate him for his 'evolving' views? Somehow I don't
think so. You're allowed to change your views as long as you move in the right
direction. That shows great moral integrity. If you come up with the wrong
answers, you're a conscienceless degenerate.
Perhaps but it also exposes these commentators for what they
are... opportunists who lack the very moral integrity they profess to uphold.
Truth is not in their hearts or their vocabulary. I hope at least they're
getting paid because they're fools if they propagandize for free.
I will grant that McConnell was right the other day. He said
Obama's recent moves on immigration are probably more about his legacy than
anything else. I agree. Apart from the Affordable Care Act which has proven to
be little more than a travesty and bonanza for the insurance industry and his
'go ahead' for the assassination of Bin Laden, this president hasn't
accomplished much.
Sure he's been obstructed every step of the way. The
congress has proven treacherous and has hardly demonstrated concern for the
nation as a whole. Nevertheless Obama has shown that he has almost no fight in
him and will rightly go down in history as a failed president. I could be wrong
but I don't expect him to accomplish much in his final two years. He shouldn't
have been re-elected but if you'll pardon the expression, lucky for him he was
running against someone that almost no one liked and someone that came across
as corrupt and plastic... even for a politician.
McConnell is also concerned about his legacy. He's reached
the pinnacle of his career. I think he's leery about a failed attempt at
impeachment. He doesn't want to be another Newt Gingrich and become a curse to
his party and a byword for bad leadership when they remember him.
They're all schemers in the end and care nothing for society
as a whole. They care about fame, power and making a name for themselves. Such
is power and those who wield it.
I'm not surprised that McConnell is just another
flip-flopping opportunist. I'm just surprised at how many Christian
commentators are out there who in reality are little more than knaves and
scoundrels who have no interest in truth. They have to know what these people
really are, but sometimes I think they don't. They're cut from the same cloth.
I guess if the average person really understood the big
picture and knew what these people were really about...they would stay home.
