As suggested last year, Bulgarian Prime Minister Borissov has
turned a corner and the US is starting to move against him. They tolerated him
and even utilised him but on critical points (such as energy) he has proven
unreliable. Given the corruption and outside influence within Bulgaria it's
hardly difficult to find scandals to amplify his 'unworthiness' and thus
Washington is beginning a campaign to oust him.
This would have only been combined with a lot of preparatory
groundwork done in the political sphere. This is the task of outlets such as
the National Endowment for Democracy (NED) and USAID now headed by the
rapacious imperialist Samantha Power. These are the arms of US regime-change
and political manipulation. Spiritually speaking these people are akin to
sorcerers and witches.
The only hope of removing Borissov is to form some kind of a
coalition in the election's aftermath and you can be sure the money (and the
promises) is being spread around. The socialist BSP is not likely to be a US
ally but given its truncated ideology and political pragmatism, it's likely enough
to follow the path of other pseudo-left movements such as Podemos and Syriza. A
purge within the Borissov-led GERB also remains a possibility as the recent 'RB'
schism indicates.
At present the Republicans for Bulgaria (RB) have no seats –
the party was formed only in 2020 – but they represent everything Washington
could hope for. The party is (as expected) led by a politician with deep
connections to Washington. It would seem scandal proved the final catalyst that
led him to break with Borissov and GERB. One cannot help but wonder if he
wasn't either blackmailed or promised assistance as a means to launch the RB
challenge to GERB. Or it might be that he's like a lot of politicians – a bit
of a sociopath. Regardless, Washington will make use of him.
Despite their boasts, the RB's are a long-shot but again, I
look for some kind of coalition with Washington, Moscow, Ankara, and Brussels
all in the background attempting to manipulate the board. Just recently
numerous Russians have been expelled – accused of espionage. It's all part of
the game. The outcome will affect energy policy, the larger political equation
of the Balkans, and the geopolitics of the Black Sea region.
The Euractiv article while biased and written from a
pro-Atlanticist standpoint, is helpful in that it frames the position being
taken by Washington and its Atlanticist allies. As is often the case, it's not
an overt lie in what it says but misleading in what it omits and how it frames
the issues at hand.
