US and Poland's PiS Establish Closer Ties

Poland's ruling PiS continues to pick up a lot of negative press coverage in Europe but you'd hardly know it in the United States as Warsaw continues to forge close ties with Washington. Unlike the other powers within Europe and even some of Poland's fellow members in the V4 bloc, Poland is fully on board with Washington's agenda vis-à-vis Russia.

Forever caught between Germany and Russia, Poland has embraced the a-historical and a-geographical opportunities provided by friendship with the US – and it wants to forge strong ties. Poland will not submit to or trust a bloc dominated by Berlin and due to its long historical track record with Russia, the Poles will remain ever wary, vigilant, and even hostile.

That said, the present geopolitical setting has unleashed some ugly nationalist forces within Poland which may in the end result in harm and actually hurt the very nation they profess to love.

In the meantime Warsaw is buying tanks and inviting American troops to take position on its soil. The total package is going to run in the neighbourhood of $6 billion dollars – of which a good portion will land in the coffers of General Dynamics, one of the top companies in the United States and one in which many middle class Americans are invested. Because regardless of whether or not Poland ends up in a war with Russia – the war machine still cashes in and plays a big part in how the US projects its power.
