Articles like this make you throw up your hands into the air.
Christian influence on society has declined and as a result society has become
morally ambiguous.
Why has Christianity declined? We're in a kind of chicken-egg
pattern here. How is he even defining this term? It's not clear. If he's
referring to the culture, then he's ranged far beyond any New Testament
definitions. And it's clear enough he has no real intention of interacting with any modern British history or attempting to understand just what has taken place within that society.
We can try and point the finger at subversive influences
which doesn't account for the fact that if the Holy Spirit isn't in it – then
there's nothing there to begin with. If Christians are caving to culture, then
they're not walking with the Lord. It's that simple.
But at the same time the doors of the Church can be opened
wide to influence when the Church has not only compromises with the world but
generates a theology which justifies it – even commands it. It's the kind of
theology that glories in empire, in wealth, and in war and conquest. When the
Church makes peace with Caesar's sword and coin, it is no longer the
representative of Zion but the Mammon-Babel kingdom, the Beast that manifests
itself over and over again throughout history.
Worldliness will change values and change priorities. It will
also change allegiances and it will weaken the Church's message and testimony
as well as plant the seeds of apostasy within its ranks.
I appreciate taking robust moral stands but I'm not going to
hear it from one who glories in his shame and boasts in his disobedience to
Christ by being an agent and advocate for Empire and the theft of nations and
the murder of its peoples – and one who continues to try and provide
theological cover for these sins. And after that vile career of shame, he has
pursued a second career in the field of mammon by means of being an ambulance
chaser and extortionist, for that's what attorneys like him do. It's a case of
the blind leading the blind. Connor can't preach Biblical values because I'm
sorry to say it's pretty clear from his public record and testimony – he
doesn't even know what they are.
It's very clear from his extensive list of Christian Post commentaries
that his Christianity is just as confused as those who have embraced theological
or political liberalism. Connor is not conservative but Right-wing as his
columns make clear and for all the lip-service, the Bible is but a small part
of his thinking. Is this not the problem with the liberal churches – that
they've mixed other commitments with and alongside Scripture?
Connor may lament the decline of the Church. He's part of it.
It's because of people like him that the Church is in the state it is. I can
honestly say I would struggle to attend church with someone like him present,
and in a position of status and respect. And yet I don't doubt that he is held
in esteem – for a 'good' upstanding American patriot with wealth and social
respect is the equivalent of a saint. So it is with the False Church of our
day.
