The Offensive Nature of Missile Defense Systems

This ship has long sailed and the situation between North and South Korea is a bit different due to the geopolitics, unresolved conflict, and sheer proximity, but the systems outlined in this article demonstrate what must be called the offensive nature of missile defense systems.

Given the nature of today's weapons, the limited time windows, and the way defense translates into targeted strikes – one can understand why Moscow was so upset by NATO placement of anti-ballistic missile systems on its borders. Again, the debate is many respects no longer even pertinent, but this shows that Russia had genuine concerns and it does play into the larger calculus that resulted in the February 2022 invasion of Ukraine.

These defensive systems if triggered would launch what is tantamount to an assault – taking out the offensive and defensive capabilities of the target country. The line between offense and defense begins to blur and while NATO keeps overthrowing governments and expanding its footprint – its leaders keep insisting it was and is a defensive alliance.

But the record tells otherwise and unlike most within the Western context, Russia knew this and it played a big part in its actions.

Western media never pursued these questions but instead mocked the very suggestion and the deception continues to the present even as Russia in attempting to curtail this threat has is in fact unleashed its own worst nightmare – a war with NATO.
