I find it rather interesting that LPR's Issues Etc. has not
bothered to cover this story – at least not yet.
One would think that a Lutheran Church Missouri Synod (LCMS)
talk radio show would sit up and take interest when one of their own faces
indictment alongside Donald Trump for attempting to manipulate and overturn the
results of the 2020 presidential election. There are other Evangelicals
involved such as Jenna Ellis who now has a show on American Family Radio (AFR)
and the Dominionist Mark Meadows who as Trump's Chief of Staff played an
important role in the plot.
Where's the coverage?
And given that thousands of people are signing a petition
directed at the LCMS – calling on the denomination to take action against this
pastor, one might be excused for thinking this is exactly the sort of news a
programme like Issues Etc. and Todd Wilken would want to cover.
Apparently not.
Interestingly Stephen Lee the Lutheran pastor in question
wore his clerical collar while have his mug shot taken. Does he view this as
some kind of Christian persecution? It would seem based on his most recent
sermon that he does.
New Testament Christians will of course utterly reject the
claim and dismiss it out of hand.
But if this deceived man thinks he is being persecuted, once
again – isn't that newsworthy? I'm sure that not a few regular guests on Issues
Etc. would agree with the claim, if not the host himself. Why aren't they
covering a closely connected story of Christian persecution?
And what of the charge? Well, it's clear enough that Lee is
part of the effort to overturn the election. Did he commit a crime? If he did,
it's minimal. But as with all RICO actions, the strategy is to cast a wide net
with the hope of shaking things up and getting people to flip and start
talking. He was part of a criminal effort if the part he played was probably
minimal. Not so when it comes to the likes of Ellis and Meadows, the other
Christian people of note in this story.
Regardless of the actual legalities and the end result of the
charges, this hireling pastor with divided loyalties needs to be challenged and
has demonstrated that he is disqualified for office.
And if Issues Etc. refuses to cover this story – then it only will lose what little credibility it has left.
