The End of the Road for Bolsonaro?

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2025/nov/28/support-dissolves-as-jair-bolsonaro-starts-jail-term

It would seem Jair Bolsonaro grew desperate and attempted to remove his tracking anklet which resulted in the judge insisting that (since his appeals were exhausted), he immediately begin serving his 27 year jail sentence.

Convicted for attempting to overturn the election and overthrow the government in 2023 (a plot that also involved planned assassinations of the current president (Lula) and others), there was a real fear that his final incarceration would unleash Right-wing violence across the country. But apart from a few minor protests, the general consensus is that people have moved on and Bolsonaro's support has waned.

Given the fascistic leader and hero to many Evangelicals is seventy years old, this is effectively the end of the road. Unless he is pardoned or released on humanitarian grounds, he will die in prison - a fate he undoubtedly deserves. I wish that somehow I could stir up some pity for him, but I have never found him to be sincere, honest, or moral in any form.

Due to the pernicious influence of Dominion Theology, Bolsonaro still garners considerable Evangelical support. Additionally his wife is an Evangelical and celebrated - though no one seems to question why this supposedly sound Christian woman decided to marry a twice-divorced Roman Catholic sadist who celebrates the years of authoritarian dictatorship and its regime of torture and murder. It's quite a testimony to the ethical downgrade that is the result of Dominion Theology. The end justifies the means and with Bolsonaro and the false Pentecostal prophets that backed him - the overthrow of the Brazilian government and murder were permissible in order to perpetuate his Right-wing regime.

The United States absurdly views itself as the beacon of democracy as well as the rule of law. The US system is so corrupt that it was unable and unwilling to hold Donald Trump to account when his followers attempted to overthrow the government in January 2021. Not only did the American Establishment fail, but Trump was permitted to return to office and as president is attempting to undermine and set aside the rule of law at every turn.

Compare this to Brazil which was under an actual dictatorship from 1964-1985. The junta was backed by the United States and was only overthrown by mass demonstrations in 1985 - which in turn led to an election which forced the military regime out.

Forty years later, Brazil's democracy once again demonstrated its viability in convicting Jair Bolsonaro and incarcerating him for the remainder of his life.

It is like a finger pointed at Washington and a rejection of Trump's recent attempts at interference. The Americans are being called out for the hypocrisy and inability to practice what they preach. Brazil has succeeded where the US failed. It's a lesson that few in the US are willing to consider but it has certainly been noted around the rest of the world.
