A GWU Graduate in Caracas

It cannot be proved that Juan Guaido is an agent of the United States, or rather I would say that one would be hard pressed to conclusively prove such an accusation. However I find it more than coincidental that once again the political opposition is led by someone with connections to the US Establishment.

Guaido is a graduate of George Washington University, an institution with too many Deep State connections to list. It's the sort of place where such critical contacts are made with the corporate world, the political order, the State Department and of course organisations like the CIA.
The US has been attempting to overthrow the government in Venezuela for the better part of twenty years and they're not even trying to hide it anymore. The US has clearly reached out to the Venezuelan military, it is forming diplomatic alliances, setting up a government in exile and is now backing an opposition leader who in other circumstances and contexts would be denounced for brazen and reckless illegality.
And once again the figure(s) at the centre of US machinations have clear connections to the US Establishment.
Was Guaido recruited while at GWU? If he was, it's not something that's going to be made public but I would be surprised if he wasn't. At the very least being a student from Venezuela he would have been contacted. Even before Chavez came to power and started his Bolivarian project, Venezuela was an important country. The oil alone plays a huge part in this and it's one of the ironies in this whole story.
The US could turn off Venezuelan access to the Gulf Coast markets tomorrow and Venezuela would collapse within weeks. However such a move would deeply wound the US economy as the US procures a considerable percentage of its oil from its Caribbean and hemispheric neighbour.
George Washington University is exactly the sort of place utilised by the US Establishment to forge contacts and foster relationships that will prove useful down the road. For every Guaido that is used, there are dozens more that are never called upon and many that aren't involved in anything 'crooked' but are simply contacts used by the business and diplomatic communities. It's the way the system works. It's a morally rotten system but that's how it functions.
And yet when they need additional hands or someone to up the ante in terms of geo-politics, the US Establishment has not just a little black book, but a virtual library of such contacts to work with.
Guaido may play his part and quickly fade away. He'll be rewarded but that's not something that will necessarily make the news. Or, he might get backstabbed and forgotten. It all depends on how things go and whether or not he stays on script. He may come out on top and then a few years from now we'll get to learn about how corrupt he really is.
The whole business is dirty. If you have any doubts just look at Pompeo's recent appointment of Elliot Abrams. We know him. Not only was he one of the Neo-Cons that laboured to launch the phony War on Terror and invasion of Iraq, Abrams goes back to the 1980's and Iran-Contra.
This is a dirty guy, a player and agent of Deep State forces. The fact that he's being brought in (and openly at that) sends a clear signal to Venezuela and the wider world. It also should send a signal to the US public but the overwhelming majority of them will miss it. Distracted by Trumpian antics, weather and sports, the news media can simply pass it by and few will even notice. And you can be certain the mainstream has little interest in pursuing the larger story. It's been clear for some time, for years really that Western media is gunning for Venezuela and yet in just the past few weeks this 'coverage' has turned a page.
Whatever direction things develop, whether Maduro stays in power or goes, the ending will not be a happy one for the people of Venezuela. I just hope it doesn't turn into bloodbath. There are several scenarios that could lead to such an outcome.
