God be praised, we've made more progress. After just about fifteen weeks in a brace, my son is finally getting to take it off. Not all at once of course, but we've started the process of weaning him from it. He has a new lease on life. He's able to lie on his side in bed and yes, take a shower. Needless to say he's in good spirits.
And our lives have improved too. I have a new appreciation
for 'caregivers' as we've had to help him all these weeks with dressing,
bathing, and the like. It was wonderful to have him actually put a t-shirt on
the way we all do.
He's weak and tires easily but the goal is to have him
completely done with the apparatus by the end of the month. At that point he
may begin some form of physical therapy and then as soon as he's able, he's
eager to get back to work, even if it will be in a somewhat limited capacity
for a few months.
He will have a slight curve/indent to his back where the
break occurred but it's very minor and in the grand scheme of things – it's
nothing. He's alive and he can walk and we avoided surgery. The edema is gone.
That combined with several months of no discernible movement – means that he's
declared healed and out of danger.
As you can imagine, we are rejoicing.
Thank you to all who have been praying and if you think of it
– keep praying for us. There's a light at the end of the tunnel and the danger
seems to be gone but he's not done quite yet. His full recovery is still months
away.
Glory to God.
