I'm not going to waste a great deal of time interacting with what
is effectively John Birch Radio – or at least its Fundamentalist-Evangelical
arm. It is spiritually bankrupt and while there are bits of gospel truth to be
found on CrossTalk, the deception and error far outweigh it and expose the show
as a dangerous font of heresy and disinformation.
Generally speaking, Christian radio has played a large role
in disseminating disinformation regarding questions such as immigration and
crime and their economic ramifications. Taking their cues from outlets like
FOX, they traffic in fear and anger.
This however was a bit too much I thought.
My eyes fell upon this lead-in:
Yes, our society is becoming more lawless and more violent. We
shouldn’t be totally surprised by this. We are told that as it was in the days
of Noah, so shall the coming of the Son of Man be. How were those days of
Noah? Genesis 6:11-13 reveals,
“The earth also was corrupt
before God, and the earth was filled with violence. And God looked upon the
earth, and, behold, it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted his way upon
the earth. And God said unto Noah, The end of all flesh is come before me; for
the earth is filled with violence through them; and, behold, I will destroy
them with the earth.”
A great deal
could be said about their use (and misuse) of Genesis 6, and the Evangelical
sanction and promotion of violence in this society in the form of militarism
and gun culture – not to mention their championing of an economic system that
promotes destructive cycles of boom and bust, that exploits people, and
destroys family and communities. Yes, these cycles lead to violence to be sure.
But this show has an agenda – one set and established for them by the
Right-wing political forces they would ally with. And in this case they want to
promote the narrative that society is becoming chaotic – it is to some degree,
but once again these people are just as much to blame for it as their 'soft on
crime' antagonists.
How should a
Christian respond to all of this? Well, you certainly won't find the answer
with VCY or CrossTalk. Do we respond with grace or mercy? How about wisdom and
re-assessment? No, CrossTalk's answer is to invite on some kind Christian
charlatan and give a platform to hawk his wares.
I visited
the linked website and what did I find?
It was a
basket of Right-wing filth including reams of police propaganda, along with the
marketing of bulletproof vests (and gun culture). This was heavily supplemented
by anti-China disinformation, anti-immigrant narratives and much more.
Basically
it's another group of hucksters who found a Right-wing angle someone hadn't
exploited yet and they're using it to build their profile, make money, and
engage in activism. The organisation's IRS-990 doesn't reveal salaries and yet
there are many ways to 'cash in' on a non-profit and hide what's happening – internal
loans and secondary companies are common enough, along with all the other
ministry or charity 'perks' which can be utilised to pay for a lot of
day-to-day expenses.
And we're
supposed to be impressed or convinced by these people appealing to Genesis 6?
The New Testament evokes this episode and ties it in with Sodom – whose sexual
sins were rooted in mammonism and decadence (as per Ezekiel 16), and when run
through the covenant filter it is always associated with apostasy.
Apostasy is
often not outright but functional – the tree being known by its fruit. The
Northern Kingdom of Israel was apostate even while it retained a corrupted and
syncretistic form of Jehovah worship.
That same
kind of apostasy is with us today and thus Genesis 6 would apply far less to
society at large (which is certainly wicked) but more specifically to the false
and ungodly men crept in unawares (Jude). By that reckoning the demonic
activity present in the Church must be identified with those who would corrupt
the teaching of the New Testament, replacing the gospel of grace with one of
cheap (or false) grace, exchanging the Kingdom ethics of Christ with the
mammonism, pride, and violence of the world, and those who have fallen into
idolatry – confusing and replacing the Kingdom of Zion with that of America or
some mythological permutation of it.
The Church
does not look to the sword of the state for vengeance. These people would know
this if they would bother to read Romans 12 and then ignore the false chapter
division that separates it from Romans 13 – the latter must be read in light of
the former as it's all part of the same discourse.
These people
do not represent Christ or the teachings of his apostles but instead represent
the heritage of Nimrod and Lamech. Like their spiritual forebears they are
those who despise the weak and would promote themselves as the masters of all –
those who are not subject to the laws of God but as the lawless, they make
their own rules and ethics. And to no one's surprise these offspring of Balaam
strengthen the hands of those who do evil and form alliances with the Beast
powers of the world.
It must be
stated and understood they don't actually have faith in anything other than
their own strength and the power of the sword and coin. They don't believe in
prayer. They don't believe in Providence. They don't believe God ordains the
powers that be. They believe in their idols which are expressions of
self-deification and as such they will fight to the death in order to protect
them.
CrossTalk is
a form of apostasy as are the affiliates it promotes.
