Loyalty Among Thieves

At the end of May there was a telling episode that reveals something of Trump's character. He railed against Kayleigh McEnany his former press secretary and one of his staunchest allies when she proved unwilling to distort poll numbers in Trump's favour. The result was that it gave his rival Florida governor Ron DeSantis a needed boost as he is far behind in the polls.

As part of his administration, this woman lied for Trump day after day and sold him to the American public and in particular the Christian Right as she postured herself and her political role as a form of Christian expression.

But Trump operates like a mafia Don. He expects total loyalty even to the point of self-immolation. You're supposed to lie, cheat, steal, and kill for your Don to demonstrate your loyalty. If you're unwilling to do so he'll turn on you in a heartbeat. We saw this also with Mike Pence who now attempts to pretend that he is in possession of some kind of integrity. January 6 was a bridge too far for him, all the more as he realized these people would have killed him if they could. So he turned on his Don and now is an object of his wrath.

McEnany by all accounts was still a loyal supplicant and perhaps has now finally realized what Trump in fact is. Has she repented? Has she come forward to tell the Church she was wrong? Of course not. She's a professional liar and while her former boss stabbed her in the back she'll press on and whore herself out to some other monied interest. I realize that sounds a bit harsh but I think it completely warranted when it comes to the likes of McEnany who I view as completely disingenuous and deceived person. In fact any attempt to placate her image would simply be dishonest. Her deceit is only amplified by her supposed Christian profession.

Trump's ethics and notions about integrity are completely unprincipled – they are merely transactional and primal. He is a sociopath and all such men ultimately end up self-destructing – and like Trump are incapable of repentance. The man is basically a walking and talking reprobate and yet this is the person the Christian community decides to get behind. It's judgment pure and simple.

The marvel of Trump is his cunning to keep re-inventing himself and pressing on. It is his perseverance in the realm of shameless self-promotion that is his strongest and most impressive attribute. And yet when he's gone no one (and I mean no one) will miss him.
