I shouldn't have to read about this on NPR.
It isn't too surprising but certainly noteworthy that this
story received virtually no coverage in Christian circles. Is that news 'from a
Christian worldview' – to ignore things inconvenient, to sweep embarrassing
things under the rug? So it would seem.
Is it too controversial? Though some conservatives have tried
to argue that the reality of racism needs to be addressed, others denounce such
'woke' discussions as communist. What kind of news exists that cannot even
raise certain questions? Or perhaps the editors simply aren't interested as it
doesn't further the interests of their financial backers.
Will no one be held to account?
I did finally see after a couple of days it was picked up by
The Christian Post (sic). The comments were disheartening to say the least as
many defended the pastor and raged against the SBC. I'm not saying the SBC's way
of dealing with this was right or wrong as I reject the very premise of the
SBC. As such, the discussion gets quickly sidetracked.
But then there's a second story that also needs to be
addressed.
What kind of sick joke is this church? What kind of meetings
and services do they have with these kinds of shenanigans taking place? Are the
people in the congregation content with their pastor being a buffoon?
Apparently no one takes offense at his racism? Do they have any wisdom left or
any ounce of discernment?
Clearly the Word of God is not central to their thinking, nor
does it guide them as an authority. One wonders if it has any place at all in
their thinking.
