Osborne has been called out on this and yet one must laugh at offended politicians, those that express moral outrage over his deeds. Mainstream media protestations are almost as comical.
Osborne's great sin is that he's openly doing what is supposed to remain a secret. The news media is closely wed to the state and in many cases executive branch staffers, intelligence agencies, lobbyists and spokesmen will edit and approve news stories. In some cases they all but write them.
Osborne simply has no shame and thus he can't see the conflict of interest. His conduct while deplorable is not incompatible or in violation of real or actual protocols. If he did the same out of the public eye, no one would even notice.
