America maneuvers and manipulates the politics in other countries and then if need be it will even finance the build-up of their militaries. The US has many tools in its banking toolbox and a lot of them flow through the State Department and Pentagon.

As suggested last year, Bulgarian Prime Minister Borissov has turned a corner and the US is starting to move against him. They tolerated him and even utilised him but on critical points (such as energy) he has proven unreliable. Given the corruption and outside influence within Bulgaria it's hardly difficult to find scandals to amplify his 'unworthiness' and thus Washington is beginning a campaign to oust him.

Despite all its woes the EU is looking to expand. The only countries left within the European orbit that aren't part of the EU are countries like Norway and Switzerland which have no interest in joining, nations like Ukraine and maybe Georgia which are riddled with controversy, states like Belarus and Moldova which are hostile to Brussels and the handful of Balkan nations which are a source of contention.

Bulgaria keeps coming up in the news and it's clear the Balkan state has become a fault-line, a stress point in the great geopolitical game that is Cold War II. I've written about some of the struggles over the Bulgarian state, the tensions between Europe, Turkey, Russia and the US (via NATO). It's a story of weapons sales, smuggling and much more. That struggle is now playing out in this proposed bill that will affect Evangelicals... many of whom are connected to Western Europe and the United States.

This is the means by which some of the Far-Right and fringe parties are able to enter government. Under the parliamentary system (which I still think is better than the US model) a party who wins the election without a clear majority must form a coalition government.
