Self-Subversion: Evangelical and Right-wing Feminism

By all accounts, there is a spectrum to modern feminism. Some feminists hate men and turn toward androgyny or ironically to an emulation of masculinity. Other forms of feminism celebrate femininity but it is recast and breaks with older forms and understandings of what that meant – often in forms of libertine expression – a certain conception of womanhood turned up a few notches as it were. Sometimes as a concept it begins to breakdown and blur and even poses as being anti-feminist – and yet ultimately is part of the same cultural subversion that has dismantled the older understandings of womanhood that once prevailed in society and certainly within the Church.

This is not really a noteworthy story but it provides an occasion to reflect upon a few things. Because like it or not this is what people are buying into and as long as we're attending mainstream institutional 'conservative' churches, we're going to encounter the folks who are influenced by these people – and even look up to them.

As I have explained in the past as a former member of that faction I used to pick a copy every month from the back table of the auditorium and over the years I still keep tabs on the OPC and some of the people I used to know within its ranks.

An Erstwhile Democrat Transformed into a Trumpite

Recently I had the displeasure of encountering an old acquaintance who at one time I would have described as a working class Democrat. He's a former union guy, a baby-boomer that generally speaking was socially liberal, patriotic and somewhat racist.

I have to say growing up in the West I had not really encountered the old working-class type Democrat before. When I moved to Rust-Belt Appalachia I started finding them all over the place. They love America, the military and believe in hard work and yet don't quite fit into the Progressive or Conservative categories. They are a true mix.
