Azerbaijan: A Den of Spies, Secrets and Dirty Deals

Azerbaijan continues in its role as an energy supplier to the West and a staging ground and a clandestine base for Western and Israeli operations... especially against Iran. Baku serves largely as a facilitator for Western intelligence agencies.

Sometimes reckoned as almost an annex of Turkey, Azerbaijan has in recent years taken over a role that Ankara under Erdogan has cast into some doubt. Aliyev, the authoritarian leader of Azerbaijan is granted diplomatic and military protection. His corrupt government would otherwise fall under great scrutiny if he were on the opposite side of the spectrum. Were he to ally with Russia, the US would certainly be making trouble for him and in the rough neighbourhood of the Caucasus it wouldn't be hard to do.
Some in the West will attempt to paint this story as a tale of 'bad' regimes like Saudis and UAE involved in all sorts of dirty deals. The truth is they are involved in 'some' independent ventures but the bulk of what they're doing is in collaboration with Western intelligence agencies but especially the United States. This is further bolstered by the logistical and diplomatic support granted by Washington and the fact that the other countries involved are nations like Bulgaria and Ukraine. This has US fingerprints all over it. Working through these proxies, the CIA and BND can claim plausible deniability and put some distance between themselves and these operations.
Additionally never forget there are a bunch of people getting rich of these transfers and weapons sales.
While the Western media continues to spin lies about Assad and chemical weapons an even casual observer of international media will know there's more to the Syrian Civil War and the story of ISIS than is commonly told. The Israelis have continued to back ISIS and this is part of a larger alliance and strategy with Riyadh... just don't say that too loud. Everyone knows about it, but it's not to be spoken of. Yes, the Zionist state and the guardians of Mecca, the claimants to the Caliphate are in collusion.
The notion that the US isn't 'in' on this is to be honest... beyond absurd.
Of course if the story gains traction, the fact these weapons via Bulgaria and Azerbaijan ended up in ISIS hands will simply be put down as an unfortunate 'development', a 'mistake'... rather than a deliberate policy, even though this has been happening for several years and virtually everyone (except the Mainstream Media) knows it.
That this journalist was questioned by Bulgarian intelligence and then fired is also interesting.
The Mina Report article is probably correct in stating that the reason Al Jazeera has gone with the story is due to the current Saudi-Qatari diplomatic row and that the Doha based news agency is doing all it can to highlight Saudi complicity in terrorism. Qatar is also guilty, of course also while working (at times) alongside US interests. The funny (or not so funny) part of the story is whether you're pointing at Doha or Riyadh, both roads lead back to Washington. The United States is 'the' terrorist state par excellence.
The fact that this story also points to a larger African tale involving Burkina Faso and Congo is also noteworthy and only hints at a larger project the US has been involved with in Africa over the past decade.
Just earlier this summer I posted an article about Ukrainian weapons making their way to South Sudan:
