I've been touching on this lately - but here's another example. The mainstream media (following the DNC) is tacking Right when it comes to economic and foreign policy issues.
Twenty years ago John Bolton was a total pariah. He was viewed as an unhinged Neo-Conservative warmongering psychopath - which is actually still the case. Today, he's a centrist, a voice of reason, a wise elder statesman the media can turn to for the interpretation of events and for discernment regarding the mind of Trump. As readers will recall, Bolton was Trump's National Security Advisor from 2018-2019 - but had a falling out with him. Since then, Bolton has not been afraid to speak against Trump, not from a less radical position but rather as one critical of Trump's chaotic, reckless, and unprincipled style.
Generally speaking, Bolton and the Neo-Cons reckon Trump as a danger to American power - which is kind of ironic given how much their miscalculations and misadventures also wounded American standing and prestige. That said, their 'project' marches on regardless of whatever damage it causes.
And so when the media wants a voice that is not hysterically anti-Trump and yet one that smacks of 'realism' they turn to Bolton. This is of course also a tale about the GOP and how far to the Right it has shifted.
As the possibility of Trump's annexation of Greenland (or something like it) appears plausible, the media is working to prepare the public and lay some groundwork. Enter Bolton - and shame on NPR. The outlet is now dominated by sodomites and other identity-driven progressive politicos, and yet it still exudes a pro-Wall street and pro-Imperial bias when it comes to foreign policy. Additionally the return of Trump has given birth to a crisis over the nature of democracy and news coverage in a country in which Trump has been voted in to office twice. NPR is clearly not prepared to remain in an adversarial or even antagonistic position.
Bolton is clearly quite keen on the United States acquiring Greenland. His problem with Trump is one of style and method - not principle. Bolton knows how things work even though he has spent most of his career agitating and at times outraging US allies and others. Bolton is also a comedian (or clown if prefer) when he says things like:
'Well, I think the U.S. is about the least imperialist major power in human history.'
It's hard to take him seriously and yet why is NPR doing so? It seems like I'm constantly hearing him on the BBC as well. Why are they giving this serial liar and warmonger a platform? You need to ask that. And it also needs to be asked - why are the Democrats doing next to nothing in order to block Trump and his moves toward dictatorship? There is something far darker at work right now than most people realize. The world is on edge. American society is on edge and there are forces percolating beneath the surface that both parties fear and thus even leading figures within the DNC are willing to go along (at least in part) with what Trump is doing. Things are happening fast and people are missing what's happening. That's part of the chaos strategy. Everyone is scrambling from one thing to another - being played like a fiddle. Bolton has nothing to offer. He's just another deranged and delusional talking head. I cannot believe he's still getting so much traction in the media. I grew weary of his rubbish by the end of the Clinton administration.
