Lately I've heard repeated references to how things are looking up and how we as Christians are obviously thankful for all the wonderful things that have taken place with Trump in office.
I will not bother to enumerate all the ethical travesties connected with Trump, nor his many anti-Christian ethical policies - it would take too long. A great deal could be said about the legality of what he's done in terms of the rule of law and the like. This latter point doesn't really concern me as I believe the US Constitution to be not only a flawed document but one that has been functionally dead for generations. It's use is selective, self-serving, and often ad hoc. The entire system that governs the American Empire is corrupt and evil and so I find such Pollyanna sentiments (regarding hitherto Constitutional fidelity) to be not only pathetic and absurd but pitiable. I pity such people because of their ignorance. It must be a terrible thing to be blind and not know it. Though I think if they were able to see, more likely than not they would prove unable to bear it. For many Americans (both Christians and otherwise) the Empire is all they believe in, the focus of their hopes and dreams.
They
may sound presumptuous or proud but I do not apologize. The fact that
Christians would think that society is being turned in a godly
direction due to Donald Trump are not worthy of serious
consideration.
Let's be blunt.
There are no Christians in Trump's cabinet. I realize there are many who profess to be but the only reason they are allowed to maintain this fiction is because the apostate churches to which they belong have lost the gospel, have fallen into heresy, and can no longer discern up from down let alone good from evil. These people should be confronted for their disobedience, blasphemy, and for the evil they promote and if they refuse to repent and step down - they should be excommunicated.
If these people had any kind of conscience, if the Holy Spirit was working in them, they would have recoiled and been repulsed by the ethos that permeates not only the Trump White House and the GOP but all of Washington. They would have left in disgust and they'd be telling their story. The fact that they don't and in some cases believe they are doing God's work is simply a warning to us all - it is startling to see a seared conscience given over to a reprobate mind, even while proclaiming Christ and living under the delusion they are serving God.
But we should not be surprised. Are we not repeatedly warned of this in the Scriptures?
And once again I am also struck by the hypocrisy of so many Confessional Protestants who draw lines and exclude those who will not dot i's and cross t's as they would - which is often absurd given their own selective (and often modern) interpretations of these supposedly hallowed documents they so esteem and treat (de facto) as Scripture.
But this all goes out the window when it comes to politics and power. The CREC teaches heresy - something you'll hear from many PCA and OPC figures, but then some of these same voices are exuberant over what Pete Hegseth (the blaspheming unrepentant rapist and murderer) is doing in the Pentagon. The fact that he's part of this group (the CREC) seems not to matter. A kind of ecumenicalism kicks in when it comes to the larger Kingdom - as they seem to define it.
The same is true of Roman Catholics. They are not Christians when it comes to Sunday morning (and they're not) but they are certainly wonderful Christians when it comes to politics and culture war. Many of these same Reformed and Lutheran people will speaking movingly of the Catholic testimony of a moral worm like Marco Rubio or the former Miss Arizona, Erika Kirk who (it would seem) continues to celebrate her success as a bikini model.
Speaking of the latter, I literally laughed out loud listening to Evangelical radio (FLN) as they announced that Turning Point USA in order to counter the woke and pro-sodomite immorality of the Puerto Rican Bad Bunny has offered instead - yes, Kid Rock.
For those unfamiliar with this moral alternative to Bad Bunny (it's kind of difficult to be serious as I write this), just who is Kid Rock?
Well this talentless musician supports Donald Trump and purports to be some kind of Christian. And yet what is he? He's a filthy-mouthed, moral degenerate, who celebrates prostitution and pimps, spends his time in strip bars where he gets into fights. He dates and cohabits with whores and is a drunk and a promoter of drugs - but hey, he supports the troops and like the good would-be fascist that he is, he extols extreme nationalism and gun culture - except when he waffles and compromises as he seems to do on regular basis. In other words in addition to being completely unoriginal (and having to rely on samples of other people's music) he actually doesn't stand for anything is pretty much just a poseur pretending to be a street-wise tough guy.
In other words he's just the sort of person you'd expect to be associated with Trumpism and its corollary religion - Christo-Trumpism, the heretical idolatry espoused by the late Charlie Kirk.
So the Christian thing to do is - don't watch the degenerate Bad Bunny during the Super Bowl. Watch Kid Rock if you want something virtuous or as Turning Point puts it - a "unique, patriotic event proudly celebrating American culture, freedom, and faith."
If Turning Point USA represents Christianity, then again, all I can say is the term no longer has any meaning. If this (TPUSA) is one of the chief sources of the supposed revival taking place - then welcome to the Twilight Zone.
I guess it wouldn't occur to these sold-out-to-the-world mammon-Christians to maybe turn off the Superbowl and reject the NFL and all the ungodliness it represents? The half-time shows have been garbage for decades. Have we forgotten Janet Jackson in 2004? For my part I never recovered from Barry Manilow singing the National Anthem at Superbowl XVIII in 1984. And if memory serves the last time I watched a Superbowl (or any kind of NFL) was about 1993. And when I became a Christian shortly thereafter - I no longer had any interest at all and additionally I knew (intuitively) that it was a godless waste of time.
But
speaking of Turning Point USA, I'm further confused by the fact that
so many Christian websites are promoting Charlie Kirk's confused book
on the Sabbath.
And wait a minute, if Sunday is the Sabbath -
then certainly, the NFL must be rejected as most of its games are on
Sunday and come into conflict with worship times - especially as you
move West. How could any Christian function within the NFL? The
answer is simple - they can't.
And if Sunday is the Sabbath, you shouldn't be watching television at all.
So then can someone tell me why Kirk's Turning Point USA is promoting this? Why is Kirk's widow telling people to break Sabbath in order to watch Kid Rock - even as she sells her husband's Sabbath books?
This episode provides a perfect example of the kind of dissonance, incoherence, and outright muddled thinking at work in these circles. Politics is everything and like the idol it is - it's put before everything. You can't cede that cultural space and so (functionally) you set aside all principle in order to win. It's the end justifies the means. The sad part is that even if they 'win' they've lost because they've lost their way and sold out. In Christian terms, that's not winning. It's only winning because you've redefined everything along the way.
This is the tale of Christo-Trumpism, Charlie Kirk, and the deluded Christians who think the Church is turning the tide and is on the cusp of a golden age.
