I remember when I first encountered PragerU and its videos. I wrote them off as ridiculous but subsequently discovered their impact. On one level it's a brilliant model. People don't read, don't have much of an attention span, lack the ability to think critically and work through tough questions. PragerU is made for just such people.
Well-read people (not necessarily highly educated) can immediately detect the problems with these video presentations. There's great deal of assumption, bias, and conclusion drawn from assertion and unproven points. Arguments rest on reductionist framing and a circle of pseudo-scholarship - authors and intellectuals who are bought and paid for by wealthy interests. They produce 'scholarly' works that reinforce the goals and over the past several decades have grown expansive enough that they can cite each others materials and build on each other's 'research'.
It's impressive and retains an air of credibility for those who have not taken the time to probe these questions. It's also very deceptive and thus dangerous.
There's a huge push by the Right to privatize major social institutions. The US already has privatized utilities and for-profit health-care. The postal service will likely fall into their clutches before too many more years pass and yet one of the great long-term goals or targets is the public school system. They want to break the (admittedly corrupt) teachers' unions and under the aegis of Charter Schools and vouchers turn American education into a profit-making venture in the control of Wall Street and its allies.
Enter Dennis Prager who is Jewish and therefore it's no great surprise to find Israeli involvement in this project as the linked article elaborates. In fact I think a case can be made that Prager is an Israeli asset. It is in Tel Aviv's interest to keep the coming American generation solidly in the Israeli camp and there are plenty within the American Establishment and Evangelicalism who would agree with and favour such alliances.
These propaganda videos are meant to mould a new generation and counter the Establishment narratives which are perceived as liberal. It's true that Identity Politics has become deeply entrenched in American education and yet it's not 'liberal' as much as a case of individualist decadence, or absolutized individualism - a core ideal connected to the American Founding that has run its course and been distorted. It has admittedly destroyed much of contemporary education.
If one visits the Princeton campus, the Maclean House where both John Witherspoon and Woodrow Wilson lived is not marked accordingly. Instead the names of slaves and servants are listed and the slaveholders and racists (Witherspoon and Wilson) are ignored.
There's no doubt conventional Establishment-safe history has whitewashed the crimes and brutality of the American system and the government it spawned. Some correctives are prudent and beneficial. History should not be hagiography or a patriotic victory lap. It's complicated and ugly and should not be easily appropriated by myth-driven nationalists.
Whether one likes Witherspoon or Wilson or even despises them is irrelevant. They're important figures in American history and it's negligent and dishonest to cover over, ignore, or attempt to erase their presence. Marking the fact that they lived in the university president's house does not necessarily celebrate them. It's simply a fact. It's also a fact they were racists and much else besides - heretics in my book. This leads to discussion which is healthy for both historical insight and (one might say) democracy - if that is indeed important to people. One wonders.
But the PragerU approach marks a pendulum swing the other way and in the end is just as dishonest. Honesty demands a rejection of both approaches and both camps.
Revisionism is rampant and it's agenda easily accomplished because history is complicated. And it's also easy to manipulate when ignorance reigns. How else to explain how a patent fraudster and hack like Dinesh D'Souza (who is moral degenerate and hypocrite to boot) continues to enjoy such success and even respect. It's critical to understand that he's an operative in service of serious financial interests and so despite the fact that he's more or less a clown, he continues to find platforms and prosper. This is true of PragerU in general.
I was glad to see Turning Point USA appear (at least in a caption) as Kirk's organisation also was (and presumably is) in cahoots with the Israeli regime. PragerU is presently headed by Marissa Streit, formerly of the IDF's Unit 8200 intelligence unit. In other words she's an Israel spy. Prager probably is as well but with Streit there's no doubts to be had. And it's worth mentioning that Unit 8200 alumni are widely involved in both Silicon Valley and Silicon Wadi start-ups. Like the CIA's In-Q-Tel, the IDF and Mossad are deeply invested in Wall Street and the high tech corporate sector.
The whole episode reported in this piece is both predictable and disgusting. Even half-way serious Christians don't send their children to public schools and as such shouldn't be affected by any of this - or so I thought. I should not have been surprised to learn that PragerU is a part of many Christian school classrooms and homeschool curricula as well. This is tragic and yet given the Church's failure to call out and denounce this whole programme is indicative of nothing less than Divine Judgment. Truth is being replaced by myths and deception is running rampant. Instead of renewed minds under direction of the Holy Spirit (as per Romans 12), Christian leaders have facilitated the Enemy's entrance into the Church and Christian education. They've made a Faustian bargain in their quest for respectability, wealth, and power. It will all come back on them in the end and they will answer for it. Let us labour to keep a testimony of truth alive through this increasingly dark age, in hope of a reformation that will dawn in a coming age - or in faithfulness until the Day of the Lord.
