The context for this potentially controversial fire is one of
military drills, cat and mouse confrontations between the Chinese and American
navies in the South China Sea and growing tensions over Taiwan.
Washington remains hostile to Huawei and its growing global
influence. But there's also the question of 5G technology and you can be
certain there's a fair bit of espionage taking place as these networks are not
only new but there are still open questions as to their capabilities and full
potential. It's a new front in the new Cold War.
The US is engaged in aggressive diplomacy putting maximum
pressure on allies and non-hostile states to drop Beijing and have nothing to
do with Huawei.
From the standpoint of Beijing the US is certainly behind or
at least augmenting the unrest in Hong Kong. And while the CCP is undoubtedly
brutal they are being subjected to a massive disinformation campaign in the
Western media regarding the overall situation in Xinjiang. By some estimations
a lot of the information regarding the internment/re-education camps is less
than accurate and deliberately so.
And the campaign is aggressive. Any dissenting voices that
challenge the Western mainstream narrative are painted as akin to Holocaust
denial. It's also reminiscent of how the Munich card is employed whenever
someone opposes the latest attempt at militarist aggression.
As far as the Chinese Church goes we can only sigh in
exasperation. They have been politicised. I have to believe the vast majority
of them never sought this course but they've been used and abused by Western
Evangelicals and politicians and not a few of their own leaders have sold them
out and turned the Church into a political arm of the Western order. I find
that in many cases I cannot trust Western sources and even (I'm sorry to say)
Christian sources. They lie and manipulate. In many cases they're not
information sources or news outlets but political lobbyists and activists that
generate 'news' that is meant to energise the domestic political base –
motivating them to vote and just as important get out their checkbooks.
So what of the fire? It may have been an accident but the
timing is suspicious. If it was sabotage and connected to agents of the United
States, the Chinese government is unlikely to admit it though they will
certainly react.
