This move would have hardly required some kind of great
effort on the part of the Trump administration. Kosovo wears its Islam rather
lightly and while threatened by a growing Salafist movement (one sometimes
utilised by US intelligence) the establishment of relations with Israel is a
win-win from the standpoint of the Tel Aviv and Washington Establishments.
Kosovo for its part is a US creation and as such is doing the
bidding of its master. The nation has been rocked by scandal and its needs some
good press. Carved out by force from Serbia during the 1999-2008 period, the
nation is not universally recognised and so it's always looking for friends.
Israel is also looking for allies within global institutions
and backdoors into Europe. Washington is constantly looking out for Israeli interests – this is no
exception.
What else will result? Profits, of course. There will be
trade and undoubtedly traffic in weapons. The Americans will facilitate the
deals, Wall Street backing the sales and binding the Kosovars in debt. Israel
will sell weapons and provide training. Count on it.
This will also allow Washington to outsource some of the
security requirements – putting a little distance between Washington and the
budding Kosovar military-intelligence establishment – with all its ties to the
underworld.
The Right wants to celebrate these events as the triumph of
Trumpism. There's nothing to see here. It's an expected development, standard
operating procedure for the US Empire. And if the media is downplaying the
story it's not due to anti-Trumpism but to the fact that those with a nose for
Balkan politics know it's a story that will only inflame the growing radicalism
in the region and thus there's little desire to take a victory lap.
