I had heard of this woman (Lauren Boebert) awhile ago, but I
never imagined she professed to be a Christian. She's best known for her open
carry lifestyle – she's almost always armed (this talk being a rare exception) and
has made a big deal about her gun-friendly restaurant in Colorado. Riding the
wave of fame, she then used her 'charms' to get herself elected to congress.
Nor would I have imagined that a woman so immodest in her
dress and carriage would basically preach a sermon and (it would seem) the
audience (both in person and online) loves to have it so. This is modern
Evangelicalism. Such figures appeal to Evangelical women who are crypto-feminists
and for certain types of men that find an indecent woman like this to be
attractive.*
If this wasn't bad enough just in the set-up and assumptions
behind what is taking place – then there's the content.
Ideological chaos and confusion reign in her message. In
addition to the typical pronoun confusion of Church and America (listen to her
blasphemous closing 'prayer'), the Second Amendment is sacrilegiously referred
to as 'sacred', and the liberty spoken of is not the liberty from the bondage
of sin found in the New Testament, but Enlightenment liberty, libertarian
autonomy, and self-indulgence. She speaks of gospel liberty but then through a
flawed exercise of mutatis mutandis the
liberty of the Gospel becomes civil-libertarian liberty and empowerment.
America is 'exceptional', another concept that has no basis
in Scripture, 'made to glorify God', a dangerous covenantalizing of the
American polity and culture. She draws a direct analogy between the United
States and Israel – also failing to acknowledge the non-covenantal state of
modern Zionist Israel and thus falling into theological Judaizing on multiple
levels.
What a strange time – Evangelical Christianity which poses as
conservative has been blended with both Right-wing ideology and elements of theological
liberalism. For in the person of Boebert we find a liberal feminist that is
hostile to New Testament doctrine, ethics, and polity, and yet presents herself
(and indeed believes) that she stands for old time orthodox Christian doctrine
and traditional values. Watching her performance it's safe to say there's
nothing traditional about her.
What a sad lost soul. She thinks that her gun-themed
restaurant is some kind of ministry. She all but admits that it's a gimmick,
tart-girls with guns – but instead she argues that patrons come to experience
the 'life of God' and are not just filled up (via burgers) but filled up
supernaturally. I literally cringed.
This is functional apostasy. This is straight out of Judges –
everyone doing what is right in their own eyes. They claim they represent
Christ and build His Kingdom but they live as though He were not on his throne.
They seek their own path by their own means and fed by their own desires. They
do what they want and demand that God blesses them.
Remember in Judges and later in the Northern Kingdom, the
people still claimed Jehovah as their God and identified themselves with Him.
But they did not follow Him and thus they fell into idolatry, Judgment and
condemnation. They lacked faith as exemplified by their disobedience.
This woman is a Jezebel, her speech is full of sacrilege and
even blasphemy. The god she serves is a creation of her own design, her servant
meant to serve her desires and her considerable ego.
The only gospel she really knows is the baptised worldliness
of Dominionism though I doubt she knows the doctrine by that name. Her god and
kingdom are that of mammon, her scripture a hodge-podge of Bible, FOX, and
American myth.
Given her open Christian profession and her association with
neo-fascist militia groups, and the January 6 coup attempt, the full import of
her message and her goals is something every Christian must reject and oppose. Of
course we oppose the Democrats but the ideology and faction associated with the
likes of Boebert and Trump is not an option. Be faithful and don't sign on to
evil so that good may come. Let the Babylonians (like Boebert) build their
Babel crowned with a cheap tarnished cross. They are dead already.
The fact that this ignorant and evil woman is in the US
government, and is being put forward as some kind of Christian leader – is
nothing less than a Satanic shot across the bow. She is a Jezebel teaching
God's people to sin and fall into idolatry – a thorn in the flesh of the
Church.
But what slick packaging. There's just enough eye candy and truth
in her message that her ability to deceive ranges far and wide. I marvel at it
all and where things are at – that the Evangelical movement would not just fall
for this but drink it up. It Judgment and a form of strong delusion.
We need to be clear. The Democrats are indeed evil – as are
the Republicans. But with Nancy Pelosi, what are we talking about? What kind of
threat does she represent? She might take some more tax money. She might make
you add extra insulation to your house, or when you buy a car it might have a
bunch of extra irritating stuff that costs money. She's make immoral stands but
apart from some irritations and encouraging lost people to act and behave as
well, lost people – she doesn't really represent any serious threat to the
Church – that is along as you haven't confused the Church with America. She's
evil but it's one kind of evil. Only those who are invested in the system and
entangled in the affairs of the world will really be bothered by her and the
other phony 'Leftists' in Congress.
The evil represented by Boebert and other 'Christians' like
her is far more serious, threatening, and dangerous. Her message is
anti-Christian but it's one that can fool Christians. She teaches people to
sin, pursue evil, and hate the good but as Christians follow her lead, they
will think they are serving Christ. She stands for the gospel but it's largely
a false gospel and one buried under doctrine and ethics that completely
undermine its truth and its claims. Unlike Pelosi, she is an actual threat to
the Church. Her evil is of a different kind but in spiritual terms it's far
more sinister and dangerous. Counterfeit Christianity is always more dangerous
than paganism. Even the New Testament spends more time warning about false
teachers than it does the lost world.
The stage is being set for a new chapter that can only be
described as dark. But God is faithful and our eye is ever upon the eschaton.

* You can be assured (regardless of what she might say) that
Sarah Palin doesn't like this. This woman is a derivative of her image and
persona and yet will be far more appealing in the Trumpian context. With women
like Boebert entering the scene, Palin has little chance of re-establishing
herself. They don't need her.
