Iranian Cinema

I know I've spoken of this in the past but it's worth revisiting. If you are interested in a truly edifying and moving cinematic experience, then look into the films of the Iranian Majid Majidi.

His films are beautiful and provocative and offer a window into a world few Westerners are familiar with.

Currently his film 'Children of Heaven' is available to stream on Netflix. If you haven't seen it, it's more than worth your time. His films will help you understand Iran and its complex society in a way FOX news doesn't want you to see. They are not political films but if you grasp the stories it will affect your political assessments.

My children are absolutely riveted by these films. My personal favourite, though it is overwhelming to watch, is 'The Color of Paradise'. We do not have to endorse the political leadership of Iran to at the same time appreciate the people and a multi-layered culture. Sorry to sound like a liberal, but the blind hate and fear mongering expressed by the Right is rooted in ignorance.

Is the Iranian government hostile to US foreign policy? Yes, and if you know anything about the post-World War II history of Iran's relations with the West, then you will have no trouble understanding why. It does not vindicate them as much as it exposes the lies and hypocrisy of the American Establishment and its crony media.
