This story broke wide open back in May and since then I've watched and waited. Would any Christian outlets cover this story? Would any self-described Evangelical 'news hounds' like FLN's Bobby Price dare to report on this?
The answer is no.
Israel has been systematically forcing Palestinian prisoners to enter ruined buildings, tunnels, and the like as human shields or 'mosquitoes'. The idea is that if there are any booby traps, these 'mosquitoes' will set them off and get blown up - thus preserving the lives of Israeli soldiers.
In some cases they attach explosives to these prisoners and if they try to run, they'll either be shot or blown up.
In one well documented case, a mosquito was running back to his handlers when he was shot by another IDF unit.
These are not Hamas POW's, but regular Palestinians - and it would seem in almost every case, civilians.
These practices have been widespread under both the Biden and Trump tenures - and both administrations have given the green light. They certainly have not called on the Netanyahu government to stop. These are war crimes and yet another example of US complicity, sanction, or direct participation. Remember that the next time you hear a US official condemn another nation for such deeds.
These tactics are aptly described as Nazi-esque, very reminiscent of the kind of cold brutality practiced by the soldiers of the Third Reich. It's a violation of not just international law but basic decency. The Nazis would force Jews to march through mine fields. The irony is thick and it's tragic when one weighs how often the IDF and the Israeli Far-Right mimic the style, policies, and practices of the Third Reich.
And how does this square with the supposed ethics of Just War theory?
You would think Evangelicals might offer some constructive criticism - maybe something like a friendly rebuke or reminder. But there's been nothing because American Evangelicals, blinded by the heresy of Dispensationalism are willing to give the Zionist state carte blanche - unlimited freedom to prosecute their war by whatever means they deem fit. The end justifies the means once again.
Hamas is accused of using human shields but in most cases it's simply a matter of population density - there's no place to stage anything that isn't intertwined with civilian infrastructure. Israeli claims regarding hospitals being used as command centres and the like have been shown to be fraudulent. All sides lie in these conflicts but this is a clear case of Israel using human shields - and yet in a particularly dark and twisted manner, one that will only pour fuel on the multi-generational hate, a tactic that will be filed away in the vast catalogue of Israeli crimes burned into Palestinian memory.
American Evangelicals may not be pulling the triggers so to speak but they are up to their necks in supporting Israeli criminality and butchery. They offer moral, spiritual, political, and financial support - and fully back the US financing and arming of Israeli actions. You cannot separate Israel's war and policies from Washington. And you cannot speak of US support for Israel apart from its Evangelicals.
It is once again a case of heresy destroying not only souls - but lives as well, the lives of men, women, and children.
And I find it interesting that due to Dispensationalism's decline - in part due to the rise of New Calvinism, there is an extra push as of late to make the case for the system. I find more and more programmes desperate to argue for the Pre-Tribulational Rapture model which is inseparable from the anti-New Testament paradigm that insists the Jews are still God's covenant people and that the formation of the Zionist state in 1948 was the fulfilment of prophecy. I grew up with these errors and know them well and I praise God I was delivered from them.
I don't usually have a lot of positive things to say about New Calvinism but this has been one of its net positives. And while many in those circles retain some of the outward forms of Dispensational eschatology, the substance and doctrinal framework is gone and many in that movement are abandoning it altogether. For some this process leads to Historic Premillennialism and Amillennialism - acceptable positions which have standing vis-à-vis the New Testament as well as a solid testimony in the pre-Constantinian Church. Sadly, this is often tainted by Dominionist thinking and as such many have been pulled into the Postmillennial camp and are flirting with the heresies of Theonomic Reconstructionism. In those instances it's a case of jumping out of the frying pan and into the fire.
Regardless, we can rejoice in the decline of Dispensationalism, but at times like this it seems to get a shot in the arm and it is with dismay that I turn on outlets like American Family Radio (AFR) or Family Life Network (FLN) and hear the likes of Jim Scudder and Greg Laurie still aggressively promoting these errors - errors that produce butchery and blood. Let's hope that this latest episode of savagery will lead to even more Evangelicals questioning the system and hopefully abandoning it and its false teachers altogether.
