Why the Christian Media isn't overly interested in the CAR conflict.

There's sure been plenty of focus on South Sudan and the struggles of American ally Kenya, but the 'Christians' in the Central African Republic are getting little notice.

This is one of those telling episodes where the Christian political media shows its true colours. When 'Christians' are killing Muslims, that story is ignored. They don't want to talk about that.

Suddenly those Christians aren't 'real' Christians. They're only 'real' Christians when it serves our political purposes and gives us the chance to make some political hay.

Of course many of these people aren't actual Christians in the way the Bible uses the term. But then again many of the ethnic Christian groups the American Right wishes to tout and support aren't either.

This is the inherent problem with defining Christianity in cultural terms. The term itself in many cases becomes meaningless but even worse...it becomes politicised.

Globalization and the New Scramble for Africa are reaping a whirlwind and the Western Church has blood on its hands.

  1. Thank you for commenting on this. It's a double standard not often confronted for what it is.

  2. These current third-world conflicts are a vestige of colonialism. These countries have either been unable to foster the economic and political independence promised by their national liberation movements or they've been actively sabotaged to prevent them from doing so. I doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that these "rebel groups" (a dime a dozen) obtain assistance from outside sources (be they nation-states like Iran, Russia or the US or terrorist organizations like Al-Qaeda).

She also mentioned Francois Bozize, the former head of state, as possibly being behind the chaos in order to ensure the conditions necessary to return to power. I'm curious as to what kind of relationship he had to the EU or the US. Did he fall out of favor? Is he possibly getting assistance now because he's promised exclusive access to some natural resource if he re-assumes is presidential role?

Of course, the absence of evidence relegates much of what I'm saying to speculation but these are questions worth asking. I don't even know if I want to know the full truth.

    Cheers,
    Jim

  3. The US engage in proxy wars? Never!

I don't know who Bozize is hooked up with. I try to keep track of Africa. It's such a fascinating part of the world and very sad. I'm pretty good and keeping things straight but it's overwhelming. If you find anything about Bozize, post a link or something. Even if I don't do a follow up I just want to keep track myself.

It would be either resources or in some cases just a promise not to do business with others who might be after them. Part of 'containing' China is to keep from continuing to grow their economy.

They are questions worth asking. I think we already know the truth in terms of the big picture. It's not just the US or the Anglo world involved in this stuff. If we had a 'Christian' China I'd be writing about that too. And it may be that as Russia becomes more 'Christian' once more that may need to be tackled. At this point it's a matter of wading through Christian America's perceptions of what's happening.

I always want to know the truth even though there are times it pushes me to the point of despair. At that point the problem is me. Know what I mean?
