A Tepid Rebuke of Huckabee at Best - A Whitewashing of Evil at Worst

This was a bit of a frustrating read. Marion is correct in saying that terms like 'monster' get overused and an appeal can be made to that end regarding the imago dei, however any appeal to Genesis 1 must also take in the fall, the curse, death, and the fear and dread (Genesis 9) that man spreads upon the Earth - points he seemingly does not take into account.

Hamas did a terrible thing on 7 October 2023, but it was not an isolated event. Rather it was a chapter in a long story that extends decades, one with atrocities being committed by both sides and by those supporting them. We can dispense with the monster or bestial language but most would agree that it was an evil act. Some will argue (with reason) it was an evil act in response to evil acts. And only someone who's moral compass has fallen into the sewer - someone like Mike Huckabee would fail to see that the Netanyahu government's response has been pure evil. And this is assuming that most Western media consumers are unaware of the true nature and scope of Israeli crimes both before 7 October and after.

Marion's reasoning leaves one bewildered as he fails or does not understand the context and larger story - and he is (it would seem) numb to the mass slaughter perpetrated by the Zionist regime. This confusion is amplified by his ringing endorsement of Mike Huckabee, a Scripture twisting heretic and Dispensationalist who supports Likud's racist and genocidal policies, and does so believing the Scriptures support it. We're supposed to be impressed by his abandonment of the pulpit for the sewer of Right-wing politics as well as his feminist daughter who sold her soul and became a professional liar in order to ride her father's coat-tails into office - via the Trumpite road no less. And I'm sure we've not seen the last of her.

Huckabee's statements (quoted by Marion) are lies. It is the occupied West Bank. They are illegal settlements. His euphemisms and Orwellian misdirection must be rejected. And worse his lies support murderous policies. Huckabee is an evil man and this can be stated and argued for from many angles. Is he monster? I don't know. Netanyahu is and Huckabee certainly strengthens the hands of evildoers like him and Trump.

Marion's tepid criticism of Huckabee is wasted breath - a kind of subtle and nuanced attempt to deflect a wind-storm - a drop of white paint on a black canvas the size of a football pitch. And even this is cancelled out by his walking back of his criticism and his endorsement of Huckabee.

Don't call them monsters he argues. Will he extend the same to Leftist critics of Trump?

What about the Scripture? Jude refers to the evil men crept in unawares as filthy dreamers, brute beasts, twice dead, and compares them to sodomites and fallen angels. What shall we say of Christ's condemnation of the Pharisees? He calls these false teachers fools, hypocrites, and blind guides, whited sepulchres, murderers, serpents, a brood of vipers.

Or we could just stick with Jeremiah's language which applies to the Huckabees and all Evangelicals like them. They commit adultery (that would be spiritual adultery), they walk in lies, they strengthen the hands of evildoers, they are deceitful thieves of the truth and the gospel - people worthy of shame.

And all of this appears as absurd in light of Israeli atrocities and American Right-wing support for them. The Huckabees (both father and daughter) are liars and parties to murder. That's truth and it needs to be said. This is their character. They need to be put out of the Church. Obviously presbyters such as Marion lack the discernment, will, and courage to speak out and tell the Church the truth about these evil people.
