A Few Thoughts on Congressional Oversight, the rise of the Unitary Executive, and the Corporate Media

http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/wonkblog/wp/2013/06/07/the-intelligence-committee-cant-tell-you-what-theyre-not-telling-you/

There's a lot to read here and it's pretty maddening. While our Congress is playing petty politics they are in the process of slitting their own throats. They're inaction continues to empower a shadow government that has now put the Congress itself in a state of paralysis and fear.

The goal of the Unitary Executive is to turn the whole of society into the province of the Commander-in-Chief. Make everything part of the war effort.

These senators cannot possibly be overseeing programmes they don't even know the name of.

It's unbelievable. The last time I watched FOX news Bill O'Reilly was interrupting someone and telling them that the media protects Obama. The media is owned by the Corporatocracy. The media and especially FOX are protecting the system. It seems like most of what's on the mainstream news is little more than distraction.

In the meantime there are those who are speaking out. I think the Right-wing world has commitments that are deeply embedded in the corporate system which would include the military complex. The Left (with all of its flaws) tends to be more grass roots. I know everyone will cry out about George Soros. While he does support some causes that earn the ire of the Koch's and others in the Republican establishment, he's hardly the paragon of Leftist virtue and vision. At the end of the day he's a billionaire and in deep with a lot of interests that those on the hard-Left find quite distasteful.

I only say all this to point out that those on the Left are calling out Obama. He's betrayed them and they're disgusted that so many in the Democratic Party caved and quit dissenting because one of their own was in the White House. In the meantime the work is still being done and it's becoming evident their feelings about Obama are beginning to surpass their disdain for Bush. There's nothing worse than a hypocrite.

Why should we as Christians care? Because whether we like it or not the Church is deeply involved in all of this...both politically and financially. If we're interested in knowing what the truth is and what's really going on then at least some of us need to pay attention. We have children going off to college. We have 'ministries' after our money and politics being preached from the pulpit.

I'm convinced and have been for many years that all of the Constitutional and security changes that have occurred since 2001 have little to do with terrorism. Things are happening and I think we need to be aware. Sleeping Christians quickly fall prey to wolves and many already have. I fear the Church is failing in its assessment of our society. Our so-called leaders have proved to be little more than Establishment shills and blind guides. This coupled with a lot of bad theology has already and will continue to lead the Church in the wrong direction.
