Iraq and WMD in 2014

As expected I see the Right is circulating stories that Bush has been vindicated and that Iraq had WMD in 2003. This is incorrect and reflects the same misunderstanding present during the hysteria of 2001-2003.

Yes, they've been finding leftover weapons...given to them by the USA. Many of us knew this back then. Most of the public was unaware of the history of US-Iraq relations and all that fallout that occurred post-1979.

The truth is the whole Iraq story is one of demonic deception and great evil. The United States has committed horrible crimes and has much to answer for. Saddam was evil but the United States has been far worse. It is remarkable to me that any Iraqis would have anything at all to do with the Americans. I suppose they have no choice and every power-seeker is in the end a whore.

Margolis does a fine job summarizing the situation and it is important to note that despite the rhetoric from the Right, the New York Times and NPR while not FOX are still part of the Establishment and reflect its values.

People can fight over gay marriage but that debate doesn't affect the foundations of the system.
