Christians in the Subcontinent are suffering. Of that there
can be no doubt, and yet this move by the Trump administration is unfortunate.
It once again puts them in the middle and gives Islamabad every reason to look
the other way when jihadists attack Christian gatherings.
Supposedly this move will put pressure on Pakistan to step up
and please Washington in order to keep the aid money flowing. Instead it has
and will continue to anger and alienate the leaders of Pakistan. They have
placed their lives and a great deal of their country's stability at risk in
order to placate the United States and support its foreign policy. Under threat
they collaborated with Washington in the so-called War on Terror and they have
borne much of the brunt of violence.
Pakistan like all other countries seeks its own interests and
it has been repeatedly betrayed and manipulated by Washington. They know full
well the Western media has not told even
a fraction of the whole story about al Qaeda or bin Laden. Pakistan's hands
are hardly clean but Washington's filth ridden and bloody hands have no right
to point the finger of blame.
These moves by the Trump administration will simply push
Islamabad closer to Beijing. Their old alliance will be strengthened by the
moves of the Trump administration. Pakistan has already been moving in this
direction as they continue to feel betrayed by Washington's very open move
toward India... Pakistan's mortal enemy.
Sadly, even while groups like Open Doors admirably report on
the state of Christian persecution, and do much to help the cause of Christ, some
of their solutions (like meeting with American politicians) end up making
things worse and equating Christianity with Western political and military
might.
