Cyborg Warriors

The reason this is being discussed is because it's probably already happening. Either the West is already involved in human augmentation, the Chinese are doing it – or probably a bit of both.

Such statements serve to prepare the ground, to get the discussion out there so that revelations in years to come won't be so shocking. This is in keeping with the discussions surrounding Facial Recognition, AI, and other technologies – things are going to radically transform our world in the near future.

Welcome to dystopia. It's not coming. It's already here, it just hasn't been fully realised yet. Christians need to wrestle with these technological questions but few are willing to do so. The Evangelical world is particularly impotent in this regard as the movement is so deeply rooted in being mainstream and relevant. Anything that smacks of social isolation or separatism is anathema to them – and it will prove to be their undoing. That's not a prediction but a present reality.

There is a moral component to these technologies. Even AI when applied to say the stock market changes the nature of its transactions and its methods for generating money. These are discussions people don't want to have, ethical issues they choose not to address.

I wonder how many pro-military Christians (itself an oxymoron) will embrace the idea of their sons (and daughters) getting augmented or taking prescribed drugs to enhance performance? I would imagine if they believe it's for the good of the country or to protect it – they'll go along with it.

And yet they are accountable. They will answer for these idolatries.

It's been nearly a decade since the Snowden revelations. The notion that such things are controversial is now passé. The world yawned and moved on and a new generation sees no controversy. A titanic cultural shift has taken place and yet few have paused to think about its implications. And it cannot be undone. No one cares or wants to listen. They will, but it will be too late.

It's already too late. And so, we must begin to think and plan even if no one cares to listen.
