Some of you will already be familiar with the scandal surrounding 'Sophie' from Dundee. In the wake of Charlie Kirk and Iryna Zarutska, this story has fallen by the wayside. But it has also faded away because it was (at least in part) a case of hype.

Right-wing pundits ran with this story and labelling the girl in question 'Sophie' they concocted a narrative about this poor teenage girl fighting for her life, dignity, and virtue on the streets of Dundee, Scotland - a girl that was then unfairly charged for brandishing weapons in order to defend herself. The furore on social media is quickly connected to the grooming scandal that has been floating around for more than a decade and occasionally flares up and re-enters the news cycle. This rekindles old anger and pours fuel on the fire.

The truth is the Right got the story wrong and the immigrants in question were not illegals, Middle Easterners, or Pakistanis - but a legal Bulgarian immigrant with a wife and young child. This is not to cast a shadow over illegals, Middle Easterners, or Pakistanis, but simply to say the people using this video to stoke anger and fear got it wrong all down the line.

I remember hearing about the grooming gangs around 2010 and usually if I see a reference to it, I mark it and read it. There is a scandal but it's also complicated. A lot has been written and some of the narratives about political correctness and impunity are exposed as reductionist and sometimes simply wrong.

But there is a scandal nonetheless. In some cases it may be that whites are more likely to be prosecuted. Political correctness did at times restrict clarity and there's also the possibility (no less egregious) that a deliberate cover-up policy was employed so as to not stoke Right-wing fear and anger, which are being effectively used and allowing the Right to gain ground - as the 'Sophie' incident demonstrates. Tommy Robinson and Elon Musk made a great deal of hay out of it. But if that was the Establishment's intention (to deny fuel to the Right), it has backfired on a massive scale.

Another big part of this story (the elephant in the room, really) is the total collapse of the family and basic parenting. The immigrant experience has not always gone well - some of the youth become decadent. In other cases it needs to be said that nice girls wouldn't have fallen into these traps. This is not victim-blaming. In no way do I mean to downplay what has happened to them. Rather, it's parent blaming. These girls have been let down by everyone. Why are parents letting their daughters wander the streets with knives and axes?

In the case of Right-wing and Christian credulity, it's safe to say they are not being driven by a desire to understand what's happening but instead they want to use anything they can to fuel political agendas and utilize the fear and outrage these stories generate. The fact that the viral video quickly raised £62,000 for the girl in question is proof enough.

In the case of 'Sophie' from Dundee, the entire narrative has collapsed as David Robertson makes clear. The case of 'Sophie' is a sad one but it's not what people think.

This kind of irresponsible fear-mongering has become even more prevalent since Covid - and it fueled all the Covid revisionism of the past few years, so that now people are completely re-writing the history, arguing the vaccines (instead of saving lives) in fact killed all the people, even though myriad deaths occurred before the vaccines were even available.

In addition to the collapse of the family, there's another cautionary tale here about social media. Until Christians quit getting their news from these platforms, and outlets like FOX, and until they turn off these propagandists and liars, things are only going to get worse.

The corruption is abundant and demonstrates that all of society is sick and because of politically-motivated Christianity, the same sickness is everywhere within the Church. The crimes are not always being perpetrated by immigrants let alone illegals but whenever it does happen - it's trumpeted. And in the UK, there are political forces at work - Tommy Robinson, Nigel Farage, and others who are borrowing heavily from the Trump play book. He's opened the door for them in ways they couldn't have previously imagined.

Of all the links, this final one probably provides the best context for why this story is once again making the rounds. Nigel Farage is mounting a come-back and stories like this play right into his hands.
